According to reports, Greece has been approached as part of an alliance for boosting tourism and trade between the few nations who managed to contain the spread of Covid-19 with great success.
According to a recent report Wall Street Journal, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz suggested that Austria, Denmark, Greece, the Czech Republic, New Zealand, Australia and Israel join forces to help revitalize their economies through tourism and trade.
A happy development that expects to breathe new life into Greek tourism, in an equally difficult and unprecedented summer season. This move will create the option for the seven countries to open their borders to each other, reducing the fear of new cases entering their territories.
The Wall Street Journal reported that common corona protocols - including the use of a mask on flights and in all stores, social distance measures and Covid-19 tests on passengers - will be adopted between countries before they open their borders for travel and trade.
The Austrian chancellor discussed the proposal with leaders from all six countries on April 24, during a teleconference for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of international co-operation in the fight against corona.
The teleconference was attended by Mr. Short, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden, Danish Prime Minister Matt Frederiksen, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis.
According to a statement from the Greek prime minister's press office, Mr. Mitsotakis participated in the teleconference "with six other world leaders who managed to successfully contain the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic."
The statement said the leaders exchanged good practices and discussed ways in which their countries are dealing with the spread of the virus.
"Strategies of each country for the gradual easing of restrictive measures and the transition to a new rule were also discussed.", Said the statement.
Following the Austrian chancellor's proposal for a seven-nation tourism alliance, Vienna Airport has announced that it will offer on-site Covid-19 test tests to travelers arriving in the country, allowing them with negative results to avoid a two-week quarantine.
